Today is the last day.
It’s the last day of Chanukah, and I’m both sad and relieved to see it go. I’m sad, because I find all of the chagim to be fun and exciting, each in their own way. Each one has a special flavor and texture in my mind.
But I’m also relieved because they are a lot of work. This year I fried over 500 donuts and 300 latkes for various customers. The apron I wore is threatening to spontaneously combust. I’m not sure if my stove will ever be the same and I’m certain my house will smell of cooking oil for weeks (if not months) to come.
But that’s all part of the cycle of the year, and these mixed feelings are as true for the home cook as they are for me as I build up my commercial baking business. Each holiday – in fact, each day – brings with it new lessons, and I’m enjoying every minute of it.
Today is also the last day to order from the special menu this week. You can find a list of all the goodies here. Or you can download the printable PDF here. Remember that pickup is tomorrow from 6pm to 9pm. I hope to see you this week.
